The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel review
This is a relatively old series but I know many people haven't watched it, so I am talking about it today. If you are part of that group then read on to know the reason why you should be watching it.
This series is based on the 1950s when women had only one goal, becoming the perfect housewife.
Miriam "Midge" Maisel has everything she has ever wanted -- the perfect husband, two kids and a luxurious apartment. But soon, just like acne raids our good skin days, Midge also comes to know about the affair between her husband and his secretary.
From there, the series sets on a journey of self-discovery and independence. Midge finds out what she considered to be her personality is something she can leverage to earn money! Doing stand up is not easy but Mrs Maisel's sets are hilarious!
The series has some great supporting characters. Midge's parents are like those sunscreens that leave a white cast. Important but so difficult to work with!
Her in-laws are like those lavish PR campaigns where every influencer is talking about a mediocre product in just the same manner. So irritating!
Her manager, Susie Myerson, is like retinol. Always supporting you through those tough wrinkles and acne but man it can peel your skin sometimes!
Her husband is just the average man who behaves like his part!
In a world full of male comedians, it is very refreshing to see a woman get up on the stage and slay! The series perfectly depicts the difficulties and obstacles that she has to face to survive.
It is a beautifully written woman-centric series that has the perfect balance of feminism. Although it is about how Mrs Maisel empowers herself and realizes her potential, it is not just a series made for women. The storyline and the dialogues would interest everyone who watches it.
